Reception Collective Worship
Today, the Reception class delivered collective worship for the whole school. They chose to base their collective worship around Easter. They told us the story
At Low Furness CE Primary school, we believe that high quality RE equips children with; knowledge and understanding of a range of religions and world views, enables children to flourish as citizens in a multi-cultural and global community and helps children work out how to live a good life.
Quality RE has the potential, perhaps more than any other subject, to have the most powerful and lasting effect on the child’s heart and mind.
As RE develops children’s knowledge and understanding of the nature of religion and belief, it provokes challenging questions about meaning and purpose, truth and values, identity and belonging. Pupils will experience, explore and encounter a wide range of creative and challenging multi-sensory activities that will help them to discover the answers to fundamental questions
We follow the Blackburn Diocesan Questful RE Scheme as the basis for our curriculum, together with the Understanding Christianity resource. We explore Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism and Buddhism throughout Key Stage 1 and 2, and the units are taught 80:20 – 80% Christianity and 20% non-Christian faiths. Children are encouraged to look at the similarities and differences between different religions and explore how different beliefs relate to each other.
RE plays an important role in reflecting the aims, values and ethos of our school. We encourage our children to listen to, be respectful and tolerant of differing points of view and to reflect on their own beliefs, values and experiences.
Children at Low Furness enjoy learning about different religions and beliefs. “We get to talk about what other people think and why, which is really interesting.” Children can talk about their own ideas, beliefs and experiences and are respectful of other people’s opinions. Through RE, children are learning to make sense of the world they live in and make a positive contribution to the community they live in and the wider world.
