At Low Furness, we believe that pupils should develop a love for learning languages; we strive to encourage pupils’ curiosity of languages, providing an opening to other cultures and deepening their understanding of the world.
We deliver Spanish as this supports our pupils in their transition to the local secondary school. We feel this is important as it gives our children a good foundation of knowledge to build upon as they progress from their primary education.
We are aware of the huge benefits language learning can provide to all children’s learning journey therefore we teach Spanish throughout school.
Throughout school we use the resources and units of work from the Languages Angels Scheme of work.
Children will play games, take part in interactive activities and sing songs to support their learning of core vocabulary in a fun and stimulating way. Skills will be further embedded and developed throughout Key Stage 2, alongside reading and writing, gradually progressing onto more complex language concepts.
We believe that the early acquisition of Spanish will facilitate the learning of other foreign languages later in life. We will prepare children for the KS3 language curriculum to enable them to transfer confidently and successfully.
We aim to ensure that learning a new language is fun and stimulating in order to inspire a love of language as part of their lifelong journey of learning.
Our Languages curriculum helps to foster a love of self, love of others, love of learning and love of the world in many different ways:
