Year Two

Year Two

Class Teachers - Mrs Muggridge and Mrs Whitehead Teaching Assistants - Miss Barnes, Miss Holmes, Mrs Hazlehurst and Miss Jackson

Welcome to Year 2. Throughout the children’s time in Year 2 they have the opportunity to consolidate and build on their Maths, English and Phonics knowledge. They will also explore some exciting new topics through our Creative Curriculum.

Our main aims for Year 2 are to support and encourage the children with their learning and general school life, particularly developing their independence as they prepare for Key Stage 2.

We have some exciting topics and  educational visits planned for this year to broaden the children’s learning.

Our Weekly Routine

Monday, Thursday and Friday will be taught by Mrs Muggridge. Tuesday and Wednesday will be taught by Mrs Whitehead.

Miss Jackson will teach every Monday and Friday afternoon.

PE is every Monday afternoon (Autumn and Spring Term). Children will also have a session with Coach Corey on a Friday morning.

In the Summer term, children will go swimming on a Thursday morning.

Forest Schools in Year 2

We will be doing a Forest Schools session at least once per ½ term.  We will let you know in plenty of time, via Showbie, when these will be.  The children will need appropriate clothing for the weather that can be worn outside and get muddy.

The children will need wellies in school all year round.

Reading in Year 2

Children will continue to move through the colour schemed books in school.

Reading books and records need to be brought to school and taken home daily.   Reading books will be changed and reading records checked on a Friday. They may also be changed through the week. The children will receive 1 dojo if they read 3 times a week at home.

Children will be listened to read at least once a week and will take part in guided reading sessions.

Homework and Spellings in  Year 2

Homework will be sent out using Showbie, our online tool we use throughout school. Children will receive one piece of homework a week, which will vary in subject, to be returned for the following week.

Spellings will be sent home to learn when spelling tests start after October half-term.

Showbie will also be used as our home-learning platform if needed and for communicating messages and other information so please keep an eye out!

Children will have access to Spelling Shed (after October half-term) and Numbots at home too. These are all amazing tools that can really benefit the children’s learning.
