Welcome to Year 2. Throughout the children’s time in Year 2 they have the opportunity to consolidate and build on their Maths, English and Phonics knowledge. They will also explore some exciting new topics through our Creative Curriculum.
Our main aims for Year 2 are to support and encourage the children with their learning and general school life, particularly developing their independence as they prepare for Key Stage 2.
We have some exciting topics and educational visits planned for this year to broaden the children’s learning.
Years One and Two Long Term Plan
Our Weekly Routine
Every morning and 2 afternoons will be taught by Mrs Marshall.
Mrs Troughton will teach one afternoon and Mrs Haney will teach 2 afternoons.
PE is every Friday morning (Autumn and Spring Term). Children will also have a session with Onside on a Wednesday afternoon.
In the Summer term, children will go swimming on a Thursday morning.
The children will need wellies in school all year round.
Reading in Year 2
Children will continue to move through the colour schemed books in school.
Reading books and records need to be brought to school and taken home daily. Reading books will be changed and reading records checked on a Wednesday. The children will receive 5 dojos if they read at least 4 times a week at home.
Children will be listened to read at least once a week.

Homework and Spellings in Year 2
Spellings will be sent home to learn when spelling tests start after October half-term.
Children will have access to Spelling Shed (after October half-term) and Numbots at home too. These are all amazing tools that can really benefit the children’s learning.
