Low Furness CE Primary School is a product of our amazing pupils. We encourage pupils’ active participation in the running of our school. Most of the responsibility is undertaken by our oldest pupils in Year 5 and 6. We have a number of different jobs that pupils can take on and be part of a team. Within school we have; School Council, Rota Kids, Eco Council, Courageous Advocates and Sports Council.
Each year we elect a Head Boy, a Head girl and two deputies from Year 6. These are elected by the whole school early in the Autumn term. This is always and exciting time in school as the prospective candidates make speeches to outline their hopes and intentions.
School Council
We have a hard working and successful School Council. The council is made up of two representatives, one boy and one girl, from each year group from Reception to Year 6.
The School Council provides a meaningful way for pupils to voice their opinions and have their views taken into account in decisions that can impact them. During the School Council meetings, it gives the children opportunities to talk about their ideas and share with staff.
The School Council also runs a healthy Tuck Shop, for the whole school, to raise money to spend on what they think the school needs and wants. Staff are able to write letters to the School Council if they would like something for their classroom. The School Council also runs events, which they decide on, to raise money. This can be from a film night to a games afternoon on the field.
Rota Kids
Rota Kids are a group of KS2 that come together, with the help of Mrs Stubbs, to get involved with important activities in the community. The great thing about RotaKids is that children can come up with ideas and see them become a reality.
Our Rotakids have been involved in projects that make them more aware of the global community. They really enjoy the sense of ownership of every project they have undertaken from raising money for the fight against Polio to raising awareness about the effects of palm oil.
The children particularly enjoy the fact that all choices, (Within reason!!), and decisions are their own- some quotes from our year 5 and 6 members about RotaKids-
“It’s really fun and very engaging.”
“We get to help the planet.”
“We get to do projects out of school.”
“We get to do lots of fun activities.”
Eco Council
We have a thriving Eco-council who work hard to look after our incredible school grounds. As well as raising awareness of ecological issues and the need to be green!
In Eco Council we take care of our school chickens by feeding them and cleaning out their coop. We also change their water and collect their eggs. We then sell the eggs to make money for new equipment that we need.
We are also in charge of the recycling around the school and regularly empty bins on the playground.
In the near future, we have plans to educate other people, finding more ways to help our community and our world by being more Eco-friendly.
We believe that we can make a difference with every bit we do.
Courageous Advocates
The courageous advocates are made up of 6 members of Year 5 and 6. These children, along with the help of Mrs Tracey, organise all of the school fundraising activities for different charities.
We are very proud of all our pupils but special credit is due to the pupils who take on additional responsibility and duties.
