EYFS Outdoor Classroom day
EYFS enjoyed a fantastic outdoor learning day inspired by Tiddler. Even in the rain, we had lots of fun, exploring natural materials and discussing animal
At Low Furness CE Primary School, our vision of “Love your neighbour as yourself”: Love of self, Love of others, Love of learning and a Love of the world is developed and nurtured in all aspects of our RE curriculum. Children discover more about themselves, their relationships with others, their inquisitive thirst for learning, their relationships with the world around them and their relationship with God and/or beyond.
Our RE curriculum is taught through an open investigative enquiry and question based approach where our school vision of love threads through all our RE lessons. Our progression of skills & long term plan has been written and developed using the RE Statement of Entitlement, Questful RE & Understanding Christianity through the lens of Christianity.
Quality RE has the potential, perhaps more than any other subject, to have the most powerful and lasting effect on the child’s heart and mind. Our progressions of concepts and themes across the year groups ensures that the building of knowledge through the school links to particular religious or non-religious world views (Humanism) enabling our children to flourish as citizens in a multi-cultural and global community and helps children work out how to live a good life.
As RE develops children’s knowledge and understanding of the nature of religion and belief, it provokes challenging questions about meaning and purpose, truth and values, identity and belonging. Pupils will experience, explore and encounter a wide range of creative and challenging multi-sensory activities that will help them to discover the answers to fundamental questions
We follow the Blackburn Diocesan Questful RE Scheme as the basis for our curriculum, together with the Understanding Christianity resource and the RE statement of entitlement. We explore Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism and Buddhism throughout Key Stage 1 and 2, and the units are approximately taught 70:30 – 70% Christianity and 30% non-Christian faiths. Children are encouraged to look at the similarities and differences between different religions and explore how different beliefs relate to each other.
RE plays an important role in reflecting the aims, values and ethos of our school. We encourage our children to listen to, be respectful and tolerant of differing points of view and to reflect on their own beliefs, values and experiences.
Children at Low Furness enjoy learning about different religions and beliefs. “We get to talk about what other people think and why, which is really interesting.” Children can talk about their own ideas, beliefs and experiences and are respectful of other people’s opinions. Through RE, children are learning to make sense of the world they live in and make a positive contribution to the community they live in and the wider world.
