On Sunday 29th September we gathered for Urswicks 120th Rushbearing ceremony, where we remember when rushes were gathered from the tarn to place on the church floor to protect it over winter.
This year’s Rushbearing Queen is Ava Douglas and the retiring Queen was Phoebe Hunter. They were well supported by their attendants and sword bearers.
Our school family were joined by members of Church, village community, Rainbows and Brownies. We processed through the village then back to Church for a short service where the attendants read the Rushbearing poem and hymns were sung.
We then gathered at the Parish room for tea and traditional gingerbread and the ancient tradition was upheld for another year.
