History at Low Furness

History is all around us.

At Low Furness CE Primary School, our History provision aims to teach our children to engage and understand the past and how events in the past have led to the creation of the world which they live in today.

Our intent when teaching History, is to stimulate the children’s curiosity in order for them to develop their knowledge, skills and understanding as well as reinforcing their comprehension, reasoning and problem solving skills. Our ambitious History curriculum fulfills the National Curriculum requirements and we use a mix of Twinkl Plan It and our own teacher-developed units to deliver the objectivesHistory has meaningful links to other subjects such as Reading, Writing, Geography and Art and Design. As a Church of England school, our faith underpins our key teachings and pupils learn the importance of the history of our local area, including our own school and church.

History at Low Furness CE Primary School is taught in individual year groups and follows a two-year cycle.  Topics have been selected and planned intelligently, in line with the National Curriculum, in order that key historical skills can be revisited and built upon throughout the children’s time at our school. This ensures that each child can achieve depth and confidence in each History objective.
