At Low Furness CE Primary School, the aim of our Art and Design curriculum is to develop children’s creativity, confidence and imagination, allowing them to understand their place in the world as creative and confident beings.
We hope to expose the children to different art forms, a host of inspiring artists, both local and worldwide, and diverse cultural perspectives, allowing the children to gain a respect and appreciation of different cultures. The children will use our stunning local area and beyond as inspiration for their own work.
Our ambitious art curriculum is underpinned by our Christian Values, allowing our children to be independent decision makers, giving them freedom to explore their own ideas and make their own choices. The curriculum provides a comprehensive and sequential learning journey across topics and themes that engage and challenge students of all abilities. Teachers will have a good understanding of the subject, ensuring that the curriculum is delivered progressively from EYFS to year 6.
In EYFS, this would include opportunities to engage with sensory exploration, patterning and experimentation with materials, mark-making, and the provision of a range of media such as painting, sculpting, and printing. In KS1 and KS2, the children will be taught to develop ideas and master techniques, including painting, drawing, sculpture, and printmaking. We will ensure the children’s provision will be enhanced by gallery and museum visits and visiting artists. The school will regularly showcase students’ work through displays and sharing achievements in assemblies encouraging pupils’ creativity and giving them a sense of pride in their artwork.
